Loss Appraisal/Claim Umpire

Loss Appraisal

Often times the damage sustained from a storm is easily identified and the insurance carrier makes a fair and just settlement offer to the insured and there is not a reason to have a 3rd-party appraiser get involved to settle a dispute. Many times the amount of damage and cost of repairs is attempted to be minimized by the carrier in order to lower the settlement offer. When this occurs the insured can hire an appraiser to help settle the claim to recover the loss at the proper value for said damages.

Claim Umpire

Frequently, the two independent appraisers cannot come to an agreement. When this happens, it is referred to as an impasse. When the two appraisers are at an impasse a third appraiser, acting as the umpire will get involved. The umpire will look at the evidence of the claim presented from both sides and make a final judgement/award. This final award is binding to all parties.

Claimants and their lawyers can enlist the specialists at Elliott Claim Services to perform the duties of an expert witness to assist in the facts of any property damage case.
